La Torre

Il Ristorante in Montecatini alto dal 1951

“My constant surprise is La Torre, in Montecatini Alto. I go back every time I am in Italy, Tuscany to be precise, and order the same dishes over and over again – this will be my twenty-third year, in July. I must not be the only one, as the place is open since 1951. I don’t need great changes to the menu to be attracted to a restaurant, I actually enjoy finding those very same dishes year after year, yet more beautiful than previous time, with that little add-on element that will twist it all, although nothing changed.

I love the tongue pricking that comes from their oil in the zuppa: it’s like an unexpected, innocent kiss on the neck. I adore the consistency of the filet – and I like it quite raw. No lunch passes without a cheeses board, for Fabiano, the maître, goes up and down in Italy to find some weird stuff which results to be fantastic.

It’s a successful family run business, yet they spend a lot of time in the kitchen, between tables, in the cellar, and that to me makes an immense difference: beware of those who place people to do a job they probably don’t like as soon as the ‘business’ has taken over. I will drink whatever Fabiano or one of the Sabatini says: I have tasted in this place some amongst the best bottles uncorked in my entire life, I trust each one of them like a confessor. They smile with composure, it’s not meant to make you feel special, or a very important person that deserves to be adored – there are Freudian analysts for that purpose.

I will have my coffee with vin-santo and some cantuccini biscuits. I will have spent hours at the table outside, I will have felt endlessly happy, accomplished, like this little hamlet where brains, behind hands, have created a magnificent oasis of tradition and integrity, a place with soul.

This is what matters to those like me, who don’t rely a lot on luck and prefer ‘timeless’ to ‘fashionable’.”

La Bottega del Buon Cafe

FOOD PHILOSOPHY

Authenticity and honesty are at the heart of each dish we create at La Bottega del Buon Caffè .

Our Michelin starred restaurant offers an innovative and inspiring ‘Farm to Plate’ experience where guests can enjoy the very freshest ingredients harvested from our own kitchen gardens.

Respecting our Florentine Location our seasonal menus are designed to reflect the region’s unique gastronomic heritage and vibrant culinary culture. Artisan butchers supply the kitchen with exceptional cuts of locally-reared meats whilst the very freshest fish are delivered from the Mediterranean.

This season our unique menus reflect the beauty of the Tuscan country harvest and include homemade Cappelletti pasta with pigeon, butter and thyme and our very popular Amberjack fish served in three ways (tartar, belly, fillet) with baby onions, asparagus and caramelised onions.

THE CHEF

Creative Head Chef, Antonello Sardi, originally started his career as a kitchen assistant.

It wasn’t long however, before his impressive culinary skills were applauded by customers, colleagues and food critics alike. His natural flair and inquisitive style has lead to a notable career in gourmet cuisine and most recently he was awarded his first Michelin star for his unmistakable and exceptional Florentine cuisine.

Antonello is an imaginative chef and has worked with some of the region’s most respected names in the industry including Enrico Bartolini at Cavenago di Brianza. During his time with Enrico, Antonello focused his skills on working with fresh and natural ingredients sourced from local farms, vegetable growers and butchers. On returning to his native Florence, Antonello worked with innovative chef Francesco Gasbarro, creating beautifully executed seasonal dishes.

As Head Chef of La Bottega del Buon Caffè and Il Lounge, Antonello’s philosophy for using the very freshest local ingredients with care and imagination shines through. His innovative approach to Tuscan cuisine has earned him a reputation as one of Tuscany’s most talented young chefs.

WINES

La Bottega del Buon Caffè has an exceptional wine list created by our respected Sommelier Vito Angelilli.

La Bottega’s outstanding collection of more than 1100 labels showcases prestigious and boutique wines from Tuscany, Italy and around the world, where big names sit alongside artisan producers hand-picked for their ability to faithfully reflect the local terroir. Our cellar highlights notable Tuscan wines, such as Masseto, Sassicaia, Bolgheri, Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti Classico, alongside labels selected from the length and breadth of the Italian peninsular, ranging from the Langhe in Piemonte to Mount Etna in Sicily. An impressive variety of foreign wines also makes an appearance, such as the cream of French Champagne and Bordeaux Rive Gauche, and sought-after Spanish, Australian and US labels.

Listed by Conde Nast Traveller as one of the best restaurants in the world.

“After moving to a smart new space on the south bank of the Arno, Claus and Jeanette Thottrup’s latest venture (they also own rural boutique hotel Borgo Santo Pietro), La Bottega del Buon Caffé, has become one of Florence’s top tickets thanks to the deft hand of chef Antonello Sardi. His assured, nouvelle-Tuscan cuisine gives equal billing to meat and fish, showcasing produce from the farm at Borgo Santo Pietro. Standouts on the current menu include foie-gras crème brûlée with red-onion ice cream and rack of venison, its sauce enriched with chocolate. It all looks gorgeous, as do the handsome surroundings with lots of dark, knotted wood. Not that hungry? Sink into a squashy sofa in front of the fire for a glass of wine and a little something from the snack menu.”

L’Orsa Maggiore

Una cucina sul mare
I colori del cielo

Quiete e relax all’insegna dell’eleganza

This is one of the most romantic restaurants in the world. Even though it is more expensive than the other restaurants in Forte dei Marmi, for a special occasion it’s perfect- Miu Miu hosted a party here once.

Everything is baby blue and cream with the odd sprinkling of seashells. Everyone fights over the one table with the perfect view of the moon.

The fresh raw materials are selected in the fields of Versilia, in the waves of the Tyrrhenian, and on the pastures of the Appenines.

“Because in the pot the fish must only remember the sea, the vegetables, the vegetable gardens and the cheeses the spring herbs.”

La Buca di Sant’Antonio

A document dated 1782, drawn up to prohibit the introduction to, and sale within, the State of “foreign wines” gives certain ofthe city’s notables the task of “monitoring” the various hostelries, including the “Osteria a S. Antonio” so that the orders will be “punctually carried out”.

Not only is it unquestionable that the reference is to the present “Buca di S. Antonio”, (in ancient Tuscan “Buca” is equivalent to “Taverna” or “Osteria”), but the fact that in 1782 it was still called “Osteria a S. Antonio” (that is “near S. Antonio”) leads one to think that it existed even earlier and that is when l’Ospedale di S. Antonio in Poggio operated in the turning between the little piazza dei Cocomeri and Via della Cervia, i.e. from 1406 till 1610.

During the 18th century, when the space created by demolitions between the little piazza dei Cocomeri and Corte Campana was occuped by the horse postal station, we still find the “Buca” not just as a hostelry but also as livery and stabling.

After the suppression of the postal service, and up until our own days, the “Buca” has continued to function and, thanks to the good management of owners Franco Barbieri and Giuliano Pacini, has remained one of Lucca’s most characteristic places.

Since the end of the coaching days, the Buca di Sant’Antonio has continued to make the best dishes in the traditional cuisine of Lucca. Amongst these is farro soup, one of the oldest dishes in Italy, and a favourite of famous personages as: Giacomo Puccini, Ezra Pound, the King Gustavo of Sweden, the Pricess Margareth of England, Indro Montanelli and others.

The restaurant offers typical Lucchese dishes using fresh local products and pasta homemade daily. We draw on the old traditions of Lucca while seeking to meet the needs of today’s customers.

Caffe dell’Oro

Coffee is like a portrait of Italy that depicts the desire of its people to get together and spend time chatting, reading, and enjoying traditional dishes.

The Caffè dell’Oro, the new Lungarno Collection restaurant bistrot in Florence by the Portrait Firenze hotel, offers all this and more. This all-day-dining Italian bistrot in Florence has the most beautiful view over the Ponte Vecchio. It is a “salon with kitchen”, warm and inviting.

But most of all it is a place to appreciate flavours. At the Caffè dell’Oro, Italy’s gastronomic tradition shines in the wholesomeness of the ingredients and in the virtuous simplicity of the recipes. And gold shines too, not just as a thin leaf of light decorating each plate, but because time spend relaxing with friends is the most precious gift.

Starred Executive Chef Peter Brunel designs the bistro-style menus served up at Caffè dell’Oro. Discover his creative menus and delight in light and vibrant reinterpretations of traditional dishes from Italy’s regions.
