Tiber Valley Castle

This hillside castle-villa is a leading licensed luxury vacation home that offers the pinnacle of private holiday pleasure, combining the best in home comfort and convenience with a comprehensive range of dedicated guest services and individual touches rarely found on a holiday, even in the most exclusive hotels and resorts. You’ll find it nestled on 1,500 acres (590 hectares), very private aristocratic estate in the rolling hills of Umbria, the green heart of Italy, overlooking the Tiber valley near Assisi.

The main building, dating from the 11th century, is a stylish medieval castle, surrounded by a courtyard with an octagonal tower. In the 13th century the court of Emperor Frederick 11th of Swabia enlarged to its current size. It has recently been meticulously restored by the current owners, descendants of Napoleon Bonaparte, who own the whole estate since 1901 and who are proud to welcome all their guests and offer them a five-star aristocratic hospitality..

The beautiful interiors are matched with modern equipment: air-conditioning, wi-fi and whirlpool bathtubs. All the bedrooms have telephones, safe boxes, mini fridges and hair driers. Each bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom with bath and rain shower, high quality sheets and towels and luxury toiletries, and each has its own decorative theme.

There are seven bedrooms in the main castle, six double and one triple: there are four separate apartments in the nearby tower, with a total of 30 beds. The castle can be rented on its own, with no one in the tower, or with additional accommodation as required.

Outside there is a large medieval courtyard surrounded by lemon trees with many sitting areas, and perfect for candlelit dinners. The 5000 sqm manicured gardens which surround the castle were created by the famous Tuscan landscape designer, Alberto Margheriti: they are embroidered with flowers, pomegranite and cherry trees, with rosemary and lavender bushes, oak and olive trees. Other features are the large panoramic saltwater swimming pool with stunning hillside views, the botanic gardens with aromatic plants and a vegetable garden with fresh vegetables to pick-up and enjoy. A pool broad wooden shelter, surrounded by jasmines and roses, complete with stone BBQ, is the ideal place for a lazy lunch or romantic evening dining.

Celebrate that birthday, anniversary, special family occasion or simply spend time with family and friends at one of Italy’s most remarkable properties. The estate welcomes destination weddings and small corporate retreats, bringing out the best ideas in beautiful and inspiring surroundings.

Get straight to the soul of Umbria and Tuscany, with their authentic local traditions and delicious cuisine, tailoring your stay with the extra services and experiences we offer: lunch and dinner, cooking classes, wine and chocolate tastings, truffle hunting, Spa treatments, wine tours, art history excursions and private tours to the many nearby hilltop towns of Umbria and Tuscany, hot balloon rides over Assisi.

Among the property amazing staff there is personal concierge, a chef and a local expert who, from the moment of the booking, is at the Guests full disposal to design a tailor-made program of activities and excursions, plan easy access to concerts & events, golf, wineries and much more.

The property has a license (luxury agriturismo), and this guarantees a superior degree of safety and security standards that have to be complied with by law.

The castle is also licensed for on-site civil weddings.
